With a score of 277, a border collie named Dorey was the top dog at the 2017 Kingston Sheep Dog Trials. Owned by Amanda Milliken, of Kingston, Dorey won the Double Lift competition among the 20 dogs with the highest scores in the qualifying sheep-herding trials.

Jim, owned by Pam Boring of Pink Mountain, BC, came in second with 270 points. Mary Minor and her dog Feist, of Dayton, NV, came in third place with 261 points. For full results, go to www.KingstonSheepDogTrials.com

This year's festival was the largest of its kind in North America, with 165 dogs and 100 handlers competing. More than 5,000 people attended the three-day event, which included side attractions like Kingston Police K9 Unit demonstrations, horsemanship demonstrations by the Horseman's Way and the Ultimutts Stunt Dog Show.

The Kingston Sheep Dog Trials Festival has been a Top 100 Festival and Events Ontario winner for nine years running. Organizers wish to thank all attendees, trial participants, volunteers and sponsors for making this event such a success.

"For me, it's meeting the people who come to the trials, especially competitors and visitors who have been coming for years," says Stephanie Grimes, assistant supervisor, recreation programs with the City of Kingston. "This tells us that we are offering a top quality event."
